Summary
Conor is a 28 year old accountant who takes a trip to Grandma's house, only to find much more than he'd bargained for.

<BLOCKQUOTE>With a sigh, Conor's mother pulled the red raincoat's hood a little farther forward on his head. "Lizzie is sick too, Conor. You just have to drive the soup over to your grandmother and then you can head on back home. I know it's frustrating to be sent on an errand when you've come to visit, but I have to take care of Lizzie. I can't run the soup over today either."</BLOCKQUOTE>
Author Notes
So, what, I have a robot, a merman, and now a werewolf. Now I just gotta write that one story with a demon I have rotting on my hard drive and flesh out that one vampire story and I'll have all my supernatural being bases covered, right?

This story was borne of me having a sudden idea and tweeting Himawari and Kimyō Tabibito about it. Himawari was ... enthusiastic, to say the least. And then I fell down a hole of World of Warcraft and had to write 6,000 words over the course of like, two days to catch up and finish it in time. Himawari was then kind enough to go over it once for me. And here we are: with another weird-ass story from yours truly.

Yes, this is Little Red Riding Hood with more sex (depending on the version of LRRH you are familiar with, maybe not) and more dicks.
Summary
Seth Mitchell (or, more accurately, his high school's football team) isn't having the best season. They can't quite seem to get it together, and their win-lose ratio isn't anything which will bring talent scouts a-knocking.

His boyfriend, Tanner Williams (or, more accurately, the school marching band), however, is having a fantastic season: Superior at every marching competition, with one even earning the coveted Superior with Distinction.

Since Tanner and the band have it together so well, Seth asks for advice. Tanner obliges, but has another bit of information: his parents are on vacation. Can Seth put aside his stress about the football team to focus on what he has right in front of him?

<BLOCKQUOTE>“Try not to chafe your dick thinking of me tonight.” With a grin, Tanner gave Seth another kiss — purposefully keeping it as chaste as possible.
<br>“You know I can’t promise anything like that,” Seth said, then he gathered up his items to climb out of the car and go inside.</BLOCKQUOTE>
So this was written for Camp NaNoWriMo! In roughly 18 days I managed to crank out 10,397 words. (Through revision this lost roughly... eh, 200 words?) I'm pretty proud of it, especially considering I wrote it in such a short span of time, while juggling two kids. I also had a lovely dear friend helping me out with revision, so her suggestions probably helped the story a lot!

Seth is still way too much fun to write, with his horrendous potty mouth.

Summary
Andrew Barton, formerly a cargo carrier, has given up any pretense of legitimate work. He has found himself smuggling exclusively now with the help of Callum Reid, formerly a prostitute known as Caerwyn. It's been a few months now since that first day in the casino and they have a nice system worked out... until one job threatens to turn everything upside down.
<BLOCKQUOTE>It hadn't really been that long since we'd gotten together, but it felt like forever since that night in the casino where he'd come up to me, all false eyelashes and glitter, introduced himself as Caerwyn, and tried to persuade me to buy his companionship for the evening.</BLOCKQUOTE>

From http://fairyninjas.wordpress.com/2015/08/27/ssbb-56-out-of-this-world/: "A cargo captain and his partner get a smuggling job offer which will lead them to confront past demons, and possibly save a whole star-system from destruction."

From http://harmless-one.livejournal.com/39472.html: "A smuggler and his boyfriend (a hooker) end up in possession of some tricky cargo. They run afoul of some tough customers and intergalactic councils, and are actually big damn heroes at the end of it all. An adventure tale with the right amount of love and smut."
Author's Notes
You know how sometimes a story comes out of nowhere and punches you in the face?

Yeah, this was one of those. I was looking over the themes and knew that Iron Eater was writing a sequel to The Golden Rivet, which is a story I enjoyed very much. (This should be unsurprising to... well, anyone who has known me or read more than one thing I've written. I mean, come on, sci-fi! Robot-esque things! D/s themes! Dirty talk!) I was excited at the prospect of more, and my brain started to spin up a possible scenario for a way that I could do something similar. I already had a sci-fi story, which was perfect for this issue's theme, and I had a very tentative plot. So I spent a day or so solidifying the plot, and then somehow managed to churn out 11,000 words in a little over two weeks.

The whole thing with Claudius Blackrake being obsessed with Callum was something that grew more organically -- I didn't initially plan for that to happen. Andrew is still just as possessive as ever.

The title came about because I like to think I'm clever or something, and I just ran with that same horrendously long-titled format I went with for the first story.

I highly doubt I'll ever write another story with these guys. It just won't be fun, with what they're facing, and I also don't really want to run them into the ground or anything.

I am not even the least bit sorry for the influence that my recent rash of Knights of the Old Republic play throughs had on this story. I am a little sorry that Kimyō Tabibito had to put up with my incessant chattering about it, especially Carth. Sorry!

Aosora Hikaru (青空ヒカル) is the pseudonym of someone named Erin. You can find them on tumblr at analogwatch and on twitter at @analogwatch, but if you want to see them ramble about all the stories they're writing feverishly for Shousetsu Bang*Bang, you should probably look for them on twitter at @AosoraHikaru because people from church follow them on their other twitter and that's just weird. Never cross the streams.

Though they will answer to she/her/hers pronouns, they prefer they/them/their. Their gender is a somewhat strange beast of the genderqueer variety, with a strong male leaning. They've always felt this is important, considering the subject matter of which they write most frequently. (That being, of course, dudes loving dudes.)

Aosora Hikaru is an author exclusively, though they have delusions of becoming an illustrator as well.
Summary
Kiran Joshi, a Detroit-area accountant, enjoys using his weekends to fish at his family's cabin off Lake Huron. This time, he fishes up more than he's bargained for when a merman named Xrythiykar (who is quickly nicknamed Jim) asks for his help. His agreement leads to a week he won't ever forget.

<BLOCKQUOTE>Even disregarding the need to smuggle Jim into his apartment, Kiran had no earthly idea where he was going to keep him once he got him inside the place. He couldn't very well ask for advice; who would know where to store a mythical creature in a small, one-bedroom apartment? It was, Kiran supposed, best to start with the basics. "You'll need water..."</BLOCKQUOTE>
Be Careful What You Fish For is unrelated to other stories or universes.
Be Careful What You Fish For will be listed on Goodreads and Archive of Our Own.
Author Notes
So this monstrosity of a story, man. 16,000 words. Sixteen. Thousand. Words. What the crap. This is especially impressive considering I have a 12 week old baby now in addition to my six and a half year old. I somehow managed to write 15,500 words in about a month while caring for two kids, one of whom is a newborn. No, I don't know how I managed this, either. (Except I do: I waited until the baby slept for a long stretch and wrote. This meant I got not-a-lot-of-sleep because the baby doesn't sleep long stretches until about 11 PM.)

This is another of those "I started this story for a issue but petered out for whatever reason so let's just shove it into another issue" stories, and it also continues my "let's set every story published in the first issue of the year except 2013 in Detroit!" streak. Originally this story was earmarked for Issue 51, Under the Sea, in 2014. I do have 3 other shelved WIPs, (two sequels, one original; one of the sequels is for a Yes, And issue) so we'll see if any of those pop up!

Really, the overall premise of the story was a joke I originally threw around with Kimyō Tabibito. I was initially amused by the idea of someone trying to continue going about their everyday life while a merman living in their bathtub sexually harassed them every time they tried to use the bathroom. The MERMAN MAFIA was an additional layer of absurdity I added in a few days later because the idea made me laugh until I cried. I actually showed them my paper notes in person while out to dinner with my husband and my daughter (and then we saw Guardians of the Galaxy after, best friend date ever), and they strongly encouraged me. Because they're an enabler. They even encouraged the terrible pun that this title is. Because they're an enabler. In the end, I'm very proud of this story.

The illustration is so gorgeous, it's everything I could have wanted plus some! I put out a call on Twitter asking if anyone knew of an illustrator and Iseya Misu's partner responded, then pointed me to her. We talked over email and less than 24 hours after my initial call I had this beautiful piece of art. Seriously, she made Jim even prettier than I'd imagined him (and I was picturing a true prettyboy, people!) and I love it.
You can find her on tumblr at analogwatch and on twitter at @analogwatch, but if you want to see her ramble about all the stories she's writing feverishly for Shousetsu Bang*Bang, you should probably look for her on twitter at @AosoraHikaru because people from church follow her on her other twitter and that's just weird. Never cross the streams.
Though she uses she/her pronouns, her gender is a somewhat strange beast of the genderqueer variety, with a strong male leaning. She's always felt this is important, considering the subject matter of which she writes most frequently. (That being, of course, dudes loving dudes.)
Andrew Barton, formerly a cargo carrier, has given up any pretense of legitimate work. He has found himself smuggling exclusively now with the help of Callum Reid, formerly a prostitute known as Caerwyn.

Sorry!
(I'm adding these in now, 4/27/14, because I can, and had really no place to publish author notes before.)

This was my first story for Shousetsu Bang*Bang, and the first full story I'd finished and published in probably over a decade. It was a labor of love, and I'm honestly still proud of it over a year later, even knowing it's one of my weaker stories. It was the story that spelled the curse I'm still bound to: "Erin must adhere to a literal interpretation of the theme or else she won't finish the story at all." There are hookers, and gambling -- Andrew might have a love of blackjack, who knows?

I've always loved science fiction and wasn't sure I could pull it off. I'm still not sure I did, but hey -- I had fun.

The title, that awfully horribly horrendously long title, was conceived out of a desire to use the word "apostasy" in a title. I have since decided to stick with shorter (but still just as ambiguous) titles.

Summary
Oliver Kim, a Detroit-area engineer, has inherited a beautiful 1970 Chevelle SS from his uncle. The car has sat rotting in his garage for five years, however. After his co-worker convinces him to call local mechanic Antoine Brown, Oliver finds himself on a path leading to several Detroit traditions, with Antoine behind the wheel.
<BLOCKQUOTE>Antoine cut me off again, and the tone in his voice let me know he was very serious about this. “Let me make this clear. You said you wanted to drive this car in the Dream Cruise, but now she won’t start. We have two months to get this car up and running and I will be damned if I let an opportunity like this slip past both of us. Give me your address, and I will be there in ten minutes.”</BLOCKQUOTE>
Author's Notes
Again with another Detroit-based story! As I mentioned before in Riverfront Blues, I live near here! I'm a transplant, not a native, but it's sort of like once you've lived here for any significant length of time it soaks into your bones.

I tried to talk about what each of the local things IS, but I will of course go into more detail here. :) The funny thing is, both Hotter Than July and the Woodward Dream Cruise are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year.

Hotter Than July, while also being a Stevie Wonder album, is one of several gay pride events happening in the local metro Detroit area over the course of the summer. (Oliver would likely attend the Ferndale Pride, considering that's the city he lives in, and there is also Motor City Pride, which happens on the Detroit Riverfront in Hart Plaza.) Hotter Than July is unique in that it is specifically for the African-American community. It happens in Palmer Park, an area of Detroit with a rich and storied history. Prior to the 1980s, there was a large LGBT community here, but as crime in the area increased there was an exodus to the communities north along the Woodward corridor (Ferndale, Pleasant Ridge, Royal Oak, and Birmingham).

The Woodward Dream Cruise is one of the largest classic car shows in the United States. Over one million people attend, and over forty thousand muscle cars, street rods, and custom cars drive the route up and down Woodward. (Are you seeing a theme? Perhaps realized why this story is titled Woodward Avenue?) It is very popular here locally, and you can see signs peppered along Woodward advertising parking for the cruise months in advance. And yes, you need to buy parking months in advance, or find yourself walking forever from your parking spot to Woodward. It's pretty nightmarish to find yourself needing to go to Ferndale or Royal Oak on the day of the Dream Cruise, but it's sure fun to watch the event happen. (Anecdotally, I was due with my daughter the week after the Dream Cruise in 2009, and I was terrified I'd have to fight Dream Cruise traffic in labor to get to Beaumont Royal Oak, the hospital I was delivering at! Considering I lived on the opposite side of Woodward as the hospital, it would have been a bit of a hassle. Thank goodness she decided to arrive a week and a half late instead.)

Basically, when I saw this issue theme was Planes, Trains, and Automobiles, I knew I needed to set it in Detroit, because Motor City! So even though it's set in the same general area as Riverfront Blues, it's highly unlikely Oliver and Antoine know John and Nate (though they may listen to them on the air in the mornings!). I just couldn't not set this story here, about the Dream Cruise. Maybe my first story in 2016 will be a Detroit story, too. Maybe I'll make Dating, and How to Make Apostasy Work For You the odd first-story-of-the-year out.

FUN FACT: This story was published 172 days before the 2015 Woodward Dream Cruise.

Woodward Avenue is a story written by Aosora Hikaru. It ran in Issue 53 at http://s2b2.livejournal.com/, and will be mirrored on Wednesday at http://www.shousetsubangbang.com/.

Summary
Oliver Kim, a Detroit-area engineer, has inherited a beautiful 1970 Chevelle SS from his uncle. The car has sat rotting in his garage for five years, however. After his co-worker convinces him to call local mechanic Antoine Brown, he finds himself on a path leading him to several Detroit traditions, with Antoine behind the wheel.

==Summary==
Brett Bainbridge is a second-shift telemarketer by day and a masked vigilante named Tracker wandering the streets of Clearwater City by night. This is complicated enough as it is before Jordan Faulkner, a freelance newspaper reporter/photographer, decides to make Tracker the subject of his next series of articles. Jordan, in turn, has a complicated existence of being a human punching bag for the very gangs Tracker is trying to eliminate.

<blockquote>The newspaper still taunted Brett when he got home from work, and he stared down at the byline again.</blockquote>
<blockquote>Jordan Faulkner. The photo was credited to them, as well. Where the <em>fuck</em> had they been hiding? There hadn't been anyone Brett could see last night, and he was usually careful about that sort of thing.</blockquote>
<blockquote>The sense of unease ate at him as he donned the leather again. Maybe he was just worrying about this too much; maybe nobody would really try to figure out who he was. Did people really worry about the secret identities of masked individuals, or was that curiosity just a comic book thing?</blockquote>
Author Notes
Is it always obvious when I scramble to pull out a story at the last second? Because it feels like it to me. Needless to say, this was yet another of those stories.

This story was actually originally written for the Masquerade issue in 2013, but I hit the sexytimes and stalled out because all of a sudden this story wanted to have bondage. So I panicked and shelved the story for, like, an entire year. Big thanks to Kimyō Tabibito for giving me the courage to continue to shove kinky stories in all your faces. Also big thanks to them for editing the crap out of my story, as well as my dear friend J, who betaed it way back when it was still slated for Masquerade (so a lot of early changes are thanks to her).

I actually spent a really long time trying to decide on Brett's superhero name, and still feel like I really only just settled for Tracker. Nothing else felt right.

For those of you who don't know, a hangman's knot is also known as Jack Ketch's knot. So this title is, once again, a terrible pun.
Summary
August is a self-admitted pretentious hipster asshole with questionable knowledge about coffee. He develops a massive crush on his favorite café barista, who has a few tricks up their sleeve.

Author Notes
This is another one of those stories where I scrambled to finish it in time. Sigh.

The premise for this story is shamelessly pulled off a tumblr post I saw floating around close to a year ago. (I tried to find the post on my tumblr archive but was unable to find it! All the sadness.) I struggled for a long time, nearly a month, about whether or not I should reveal Cam's sex. How could I have them go out to dinner, back to Cam's place, and get the sexy on without letting on what Cam's packing in their pants?

Solution: Skip dinner, August gets a blowjob in the car.

I will not reveal Cam's sex here, and I highly doubt I ever will. While this is partially due to wanting to retain some air of mystery, it's mostly because I have no idea what it is.

As an aside, August tipping Cam because he read their name off their nametag is something that comes from me working way too much retail and having way too many people read off my name like it's gonna manipulate me or something.
Timothy Raines is a divorcé in his late 30s with a teenage son named Ethan. He meets Hideki Moriuchi at his work picnic, they hit it off immediately, and together they learn how hard it is to fold someone else into a family.

This story. This freakin' 15,500 word story. I don't even know what happened. The word count got away from me.

Much like Matters of the Heart, I actually plotted out this story ahead of time. You can see where I diverged from the plot a bit (Tim never had that "robbing the cradle" crisis, for example) and you can see no mention of the power play or D/s dynamic which ended up a central part of the story. That came as a surprise to me, actually; I intended for this story to be quite vanilla until Hideki asked about a safe word during the phone sex, and then everything went kinky after that.

(Sob story time.) I handled Tim's divorce and parenting from an interesting perspective. I am a parent to an only child, but am still happily married. I am, however, a child of divorce, and my parents were the polar opposite of Tim and Diane. I wanted Ethan to have what I never did: parents who still respected each other despite the breakdown of their relationship, and who each had a vested involvement in their child's life. So if Tim comes off as "Super-Dad," that's why.

Interestingly enough, while I usually struggle to write the sex scenes (and I'm sure that comes across in my stories. They probably drag a loooot during the sex.) I had absolutely no problem cramming three of them into this story.

Huuuuuuge thank you to Kimyō Tabibito for beta-reading this story. It needed it so, so badly.
Timothy Raines is a divorcé in his late 30s with a teenage son named Ethan. He meets Hideki Moriuchi at his work picnic, they hit it off immediately, and together they learn how hard it is to fold someone else into a family.

<blockquote>He'd have to tell Hideki about Ethan, but how? This wasn't exactly going to be the easiest conversation.</blockquote>
Asher Baumann is an inventor who has somehow managed to build a robot far beyond his skill in terms of complexity. He names the robot Ezra, after himself. Ezra, however, has no desire to remain a mere robot.
<blockquote>"Here lies Asher Baumann," he murmured as he picked up the pitcher. "Inventor, madman, flaming idiot."</blockquote>

Author Notes
So I really love steampunk, like a lot. And so this story, and Ezra specifically, was very loosely inspired by the character The Spine from the band Steam Powered Giraffe. All I truly pulled was the fact that Ezra is a robot who runs on steam, has silvery skin, and desires to be human (or at least, more human-like). After all, how could you have consensual robot-on-human action if the robot doesn't want to consent?

My illustrator and dear friend, Nebulosity Çiélon, bless her, is an engineer, and I think my complete lack of technical knowledge about, well, anything, probably drove her bonkers. I'd gone into writing Ezra blind and had no idea how any sort of robot should work. Less than a week before the due date she started trying to talk about Ezra's engine and tried to link me to a wikipedia entry about the sort of engine she thought Ezra would have. I had to be like "whoa now, no, I don't have time for this!"

Therefore, Ezra runs on steam and handwaving. Probably also magic. But mostly steam and handwaving. If I ever go back and expand this into a novel-length story (an idea I am considering), I'll obviously need her technical and engineering input.

The title of this story was a tricky one, because it had to sum up Asher's initial resistance, then curiosity, then acceptance of Ezra's journey to "humanity." Of course, by proxy, it also had to cover Ezra's aforementioned journey. I was panicking because the deadline was coming up, and two days before the story was due it was still untitled. I crowdsourced suggestions, and Through Uncharted Seas was the one that felt perfect.
Author's Notes
This was the first story illustrated by Nebulosity Çiélon, a dear friend whom I have known for roughly 14 years. We used to sit on her bedroom floor and draw picture after picture after picture. She may have even read some of my old fanfiction back then, though I'm not entirely sure I was willing to even show some to her, I was so embarrassed by my writing skill! (I don't think I've improved all that much; rather I just give less of a fuck now.)

I decided I needed to keep the momentum going, and wrote another story for this year's special issue.

Once again, the title is a Fall Out Boy lyric: this time, from the somewhat more obscure Homesick at Space Camp. (More obscure than Tastes Like You Only Sweeter's Thnks Fr Th Mmrs, anyway.)
DEEJAY TWO: I still think that's a stupid pornstar name if I ever heard one.
<br>
JOHNNY: And that would be Bobby Killjoy, the wet blanket.
<br>
Author's Notes
First things first: I live near Detroit. The title itself is a reference to the city (as the city has a riverfront area, and you can totally see Canada). The story is heavily inspired by a pair of deejays who only recently picked up the morning show slot on the local alternative station (which is actually based in Windsor, ON, not Detroit even though based on call-ins most of its listener base is in the US).

The sports bar they go to is, in my head, CK Diggs. It's a sports bar I've been to a few times in my life and has really good Mai Tais, though neither Nate nor John orders one.

Harvey the cat is based on my cat, Baloo, even though she is gray and very fluffy and Harvey is neither.

Trevor is an author, who has a character in a novel named Chad. And then one day, he doesn't anymore, but now there's some dude in his bed who says his name is Chad.
<blockquote>I’ve heard it said that if you spend long enough on a story, long enough absorbed in the world and the characters, that it all starts to become real. It starts to seem as though the characters are actually people you could converse with, as though the events that you write are times you’ve lived through.
<br><BR>
Author's Notes
So the s2b2 editors put out a cry for help, asking for some last-minute submissions to fill out the issue. I'd been kicking around an idea strongly inspired by Stranger Than Fiction but never did anything with it for this issue. So, I sat down and threw this together in less than 48 hours. It definitely shows.

It is the fastest I've ever turned a story around, and I'm oddly proud of that.
Author's Notes
So, I really like the medical field. Like a lot. Like I've dreamed of being involved in it somehow, in some capacity, since I was in elementary school. I've watched a lot of medical dramas and re-enacted shows on Discovery Health/TLC (back when those channels were good). So many episodes of Untold Stories of the ER and Life in the ER and stuff like that. I read our copy of The American Medical Association's Home Medical Encyclopedia cover-to-cover before I was eight years old.

No, really, I don't think you guys understand. I fucking love anything at all vaguely related to anything medical.

So when I saw the theme for this issue was "The Doctor Is In," you'd better fucking believe I was all over that shit. I was determined to find a way to write a whole ton of medical jargon I'd seen on TV because I'm a nerd like that. I don't know exactly what disorder Adam has -- he shows some signs of Marfan syndrome with his height and long limbs, but that's not a disease which would require a pacemaker -- rather, he would have likely been declared dead at the scene from an aortic dissection and massive internal bleeding if Marfan were his issue. I never did completely decide what his disorder was. Maybe one day I'll diagnose him.

This story marks the first time I actually plotted a story out scene-by-scene (a necessity with the two simultaneous timelines). It also marks the first time I went for a terrible pun in the title.
Author's Notes

<br><BR>
So the s2b2 editors put out a cry for help, asking for some last-minute submissions to fill out the issue. I'd been kicking around an idea strongly inspired by Stranger Than Fiction but never did anything with it for this issue. So, I sat down and threw this together in less than 48 hours. It definitely shows.

It is the fastest I've ever turned a story around, and I'm oddly proud of that.
Author's Notes
