Five Hours to Chicago came out of nowhere on a Saturday afternoon and it felt like it would find a good home in S2B2. The working title was Anxious Queer Kid Roadtrip, and I came perilously close to just keeping that as the title. Francis, the van, is a true depiction of my very first car. He was a good van and there are times I miss him (he was great to camp in, and make out in the back of). The rest stop they stop at is...actually on the wrong side of the road on I-69, just outside of Swartz Creek (which is right next door to Flint). I took some artistic liberties and moved it to the the other side of the freeway.

Five Hours to Chicago came out of nowhere on a Saturday afternoon and it felt like it would find a good home in S2B2. The working title was Anxious Queer Kid Roadtrip, and I came perilously close to just keeping that as the title. Francis, the van, is a true depiction of my very first car, he was a good van, and there are times I miss him (he was great to camp in, and make out in the back of). This story. This freakin' 15,500 word story. I don't even know what happened. The word count got away from me.

Much like [[Matters of the Heart]], I actually [https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/38897481/2014-04-22%2000.04.12.jpg plotted out] this story ahead of time. You can see where I diverged from the plot a bit (Tim never had that "robbing the cradle" crisis, for example) and you can see no mention of the power play or D/s dynamic which ended up a central part of the story. That came as a surprise to me, actually; I ''intended'' for this story to be quite vanilla until Hideki asked about a safe word during the phone sex, and then everything went kinky after that.

(Sob story time.) I handled Tim's divorce and parenting from an interesting perspective. I am a parent to an only child, but am still happily married. I am, however, a child of divorce, and my parents were the polar opposite of Tim and Diane. I wanted Ethan to have what I never did: parents who still respected each other despite the breakdown of their relationship, and who each had a vested involvement in their child's life. So if Tim comes off as "Super-Dad," that's why.

Interestingly enough, while I usually struggle to write the sex scenes (and I'm sure that comes across in my stories. They probably drag a loooot during the sex.) I had absolutely no problem cramming three of them into this story.

Is it always obvious when I scramble to pull out a story at the last second? Because it feels like it to me. Needless to say, this was yet another of those stories.

This story was actually originally written for the Masquerade issue in 2013, but I hit the sexytimes and stalled out because all of a sudden this story wanted to have ''bondage.'' So I panicked and shelved the story for, like, an entire year. Big thanks to [[Kimyō Tabibito]] for giving me the courage to continue to shove kinky stories in all your faces.
