From Point A to Point Z is a story written by Togi Kayako. It originally ran in Issue 123 at https://www.shousetsubangbang.com/mirror/from-point-a-to-point-z/.

Summary
Zed is all on their own and about to try out a stupid urban legend with an elevator in an empty building. It's the dead of night, it's cold, and it's creepy, but they'll do absolutely anything if it's for Angie.

Author's Notes
This goddamn story would not leave me alone! At the point I'd sketched out the idea, I decided that I was going to be way too busy to write it. I woke up an hour early the next day with multiple new ideas and some connections between what I already had, and from there I knew no peace until it was done. It's weird and kind of sad, but I'm happy with it and now maybe I can sleep in a bit. Shoutout to Iron Eater for writing the excellent Kindling and inspiring me to try my hand at a story with no dialogue, and thanks as always to my beloved husband for beta reading.

The series of floors and idea of an isekai elevator is an actual urban legend; this site has more details. I used a mix of that, the pixiv description (JP), and of course some variation of my own. I snuck a few nods to other urban legends/youkai in the story too. :)

If you're curious to get an idea of what the story's elevator is like, here's the nice version and here's a grungy version with bad noises! Alternatively, if you just want a song about being gay and pining for a friend, this is the song I came back to repeatedly while writing.
Summary
Zed is all on their own and going to try out a stupid urban legend with an elevator in an empty building.

Just a couple of guys taking a light-hearted romp through a haunted theater. No content warnings; this one is decidedly not spooky. Part of that is the fact it started as a project for an earlier issue (Fit To Be Tied; please don't do the math on the dates) and part of that is just my inherent need to be contrary. Also, sometimes you gotta have some sugary fluff!

Thanks as always to my beloved beta reader and an extra special thanks to lonelytuatara for illustrating. I could not be happier with both the choice of scene and the illustration itself, so please leave him some nice comments.
Summary
Martinet's Halloween seems like a bust up until they meet a striking woman up to something on their walk home. When they decide to get involved, they wind up bargaining for more than they'd hoped to get out of their night.

Author's Notes
Despite the issue, this one's pretty light fare unless banging an eldritch horror is a dealbreaker for you. We've got a spooky side dimension, some bargaining with unknowable powers, one tipsy and irreverant protagonist, and a nice little F/F?/NB threesome.

Mostly I'm just happy it's a finished story. I started it for last Halloween, and only came back to it this year after two other stories I started for this issue refused to cooperate. Really hoping that next year stops producing two extra projects for everyone one I finish! Thank you to my beloved beta reader, and W2 for both extra time and some solid suggestions as usual.

Fun bonus fact that didn't make it into the story: Martinet named themself after the type of small whip/flogger, probably from an early kink experience. Originally they were going to be carrying one themself, but with the way the story wound up there really was no reason for them to have it.
This one's a bit of an outlier for me as it runs more on the bittersweet side of happy than I usually write. Off my own beaten path, I suppose? I did a bunch of challenging things in making it, and while the end result isn't perfect, I'm pleased with it. Happy Pride, particularly to everyone who is in their own imperfect situation and finding some joy anyway. Thanks to Ramy for beta reading, and my husband for both support and indignation on behalf of my fictional characters.
Enji dreamed of seeing other worlds, right up until he landed in a Martian prison. Now he has a second chance when he’s shipped off to Tenebrev as part of a cultural exchange program.

Issik, the Tenebrevian heading the program, thinks he’s ready to be the perfect host to a human visitor, but nothing could have prepared him for Enji.
So first off, I started this bad boy a year and a half ago for the sci-fi double feature issue and I could not be happier to finally shove it out of the nest. The worldbuilding ate my brain. I have almost 2k words of notes, so if you'd like to know more about my funky little aliens, please ask me anything you want. I will put one tidbit here: If you're curious to get an idea of how Issik sees colors, look up tritanopia.

Title shamelessly stolen from an Oscar Wilde quote. The working title was "Pet Project," which felt off, so I snuck the phrase into the story instead. Thanks as ever to my husband for looking it over, and of course the tireless W2 for both a wealth of suggestions to improve the story and some much-needed encouragement to do so.
A story about helping a friend through a difficult time via the medium of ridiculous self-insert AUs. Fair warning, there is cancer, but there's very little medical stuff on-screen and everyone pulls through okay. This piece is largely sweet, goofy, and deeply self-indulgent. To steal a phrase, "I wrote this for me, but you can read it if you want."
Thanks to my husband for beta reading and emotional support, and a special thank you to W2, who I inadvertently tormented with formatting (again).
At its heart, it’s just a story about a sweet human guy getting absolutely railed by a fae character with fun, flower-based bits. :) As per the theme, there’s a modest amount of people getting tied up, though I’d say the bondage is more of a side dish than the main course. All the characters are absurdly self-indulgent and I have zero regrets. I had a blast writing this, and I hope everyone enjoys it!
Thanks to Roth for agreeing to illustrate for me — I believe this is their SSBB debut, so please do leave them some nice comments! Also, thanks as always to my husband for his feedback and endless support.
Author's Notes
Author rambling (may spoil a few bits):
Finally got to steal some song lyrics for a title, from Allie X’s “Downtown”. The demo version, called “Offering” has a slight variation on the chorus that I like even better: Take this offering/Yours until my heart dies. I almost kept the working title, but “Not So Little Death” was a bit too goofy for the tone I wanted. Third potential title shout out goes to my husband, who on getting editor status on one draft renamed it “MORE LIKE VIGOR MORTIS AM I RIGHT????”

In keeping with the Halloween mood, the bones of this thing came from ALL over the place, starting with a half-finished draft of mine from two years ago that had a more menacing version of the Deathless Lord (based on World of Warcraft’s Lich King) and a less prepared version of Aevan (with no name OR gender, the poor bastard).

When I started rewriting it, I remembered a version of Koschei the Deathless that I had read as a kid and promptly went over that like some kind of horrible fiction magpie. Koztya is meant to be a diminutive of Koschei and Aevan is a variant of Ivan. Marya is a direct steal, the name of both one of Ivan’s sister AND his wife in one version (the wife does get a last name to distinguish her). There are three birds in the story, two of which get nods here: Raven became Rook, and Orell (minus one L) means eagle. There’s a related story or variant where the Deathless’ heart is outside his body (inspiration for a D&D lich’s phylactery, I believe), which I also stole.

I’m not sure how I feel about this one — it’s a bit outside of my usual wheelhouse for sure! — but I hope it’s an enjoyable read for the spooky season. I’ve gotten different takes from everyone who read it and I’m very excited to see how more folks interpret it!
Some twenty-minutes-into-the-future fun, starring:

Elia, an enby with a lifetime subscribtion to Feral Trash Panda Monthly

Cyrill, a hot guy in marketing who is quite possibly seducing your spouse as you read this

When Elia “acquires” one of Dorran’s prototypes, an unusual radio, their only goal is to pawn it off for a few credits. Instead, they wind up as an unexpected product tester and getting increasingly involved with the radio’s creator.

NB/M/F | 20,050 words

Author's Notes
A six or seven year old idea, originally intended for an S2B2 issue of yesteryear, now resurrected and turned into something else entirely. Weirdly enough, only the minor character Sienna survived intact from the original. Elia and Dorran got new names (and genders!), and Cyrill didn’t even exist in version one! The radio is much the same, but the plot was different enough that I may yet repurpose it in the future. Recycle, reduce*, reuse? (*Odds that I will reduce the amount of queer smut I write: low.)

This is intended to be the same general setting as Going Twice from the Be Gay Do Crimes issue, but other than a few small nods, there’s no real overlap. I have several other story ideas in the same universe, and one very self-indulgent text game project that actually links them all together. Whether any of these will eventually be public, I have no idea.

Special thanks to my husband for his usual beta and cheerleading efforts, Aiden for giving this a once-over with regards to tech plausibility, and Runny for illustrating! He took not just the story but a hilarious mix of images with my MSPaint scribbles on top and rambling text notes and somehow made coherent artwork from this. From my side of things, it’s nothing short of magic.
The original idea had more obvious bits stolen from Little Red Riding Hood, and Jasper was more of a cold, brooding loner monster hunter type. I’m happy I went to a lighter concept, because this whole thing turned out adorable and I’m quite pleased with it. The only gripe I have is that I didn’t have time to make it even longer for extra slow burn.

Bonus Trivia

Jasper’s grandmother Jade is the one that started the family themed naming. She will probably get her way for a fourth generation if Jasper ever has children.

While I’m not sure about the exact circumstances, Jet very much wanted to be a dad and sought out someone who was willing to help him have a kid while being chill about the ace thing.

Jasper’s mom is an adventurous jet-setter type and more of a cool aunt to Jasper. She tends to drop by unexpectedly with awesome gifts, hang out with the family for a little bit, and then head out again.

Kay’s wolf form is based on the maned wolf. She’s just very leggy all around!

The carpet bits in Kay’s shed have various scents on them. She (like me) undoubtedly spent some time searching for enrichment ideas for wolves in captivity.

Saturn Arising is a 100% absolutely totally original concept, and definitely not wish fulfillment for a film I wanted to be a series so it could have expanded on its world-building.

Ex-mercenary Lyss has carved out her own little corner of the wasteland with a group of like-minded folks and it’s flourishing. She’s all set to relax and celebrate an excellent harvest when a woman breaks into the compound, leaving Lyss to balance what she wants against keeping her heart safe.

F/F/F/F | 15,150 words

Author's Notes
This is actually my third attempt at a story for this issue. The other two grew out of control (which seems oddly appropriate for a sci-fi theme!) and were probably going to need to be well over 25,000 words if I was going to do them justice. I’m hoping one of them may yet see the light of day in December.

My initial idea for this included actual porn being projected onto the screen with the shadows over the top, but I scrapped that for a bunch of reasons. Thus, the projector is broken. :) The idea initially leaned more toward the smut, but then it caught feelings (and a sort of vague Wild West vibe) and here we are! Thanks to Emm and Sam for beta reading.

The compound (a former drive-in theater) is based on the Starlight Drive In from Fallout 4 and the title comes from a Fallout New Vegas quest. I was also considering “I Could Make You Care” because it’s a better quest, but I think this makes a better title.

Despite this, the apocalypse is probably not the same as the Fallout universe’s. Massive climate change and some rampant, irresponsible genetic tinkering have happened on top of whatever other disasters there might’ve been.

Dee’s scales, and probably a lot of other folks’ unusual skin/coloration patterns, probably run along Blaschko’s lines.

The part-animal folks who use single-syllable names is stolen from an old NaNoWriMo project of mine, though it was fantasy rather than vaguely sci-fi. Everyone has longer names, but they’re considered very personal to share (and in the fantasy version, magically powerful as well)

I left exactly how animal-featured these folks are ambiguous, so free free to imagine anywhere from “decorative animal touches” to “definitely a furry” however the spirit moves you.
Summary
I have no intention of explaining how I received these documents, but I felt compelled to preserve them in a digital format and I thought they might be of interest to you. It's so rare to find clear accounts of anyone interacting with fair folk in modern times, let alone accounts from the fair folk themselves! I hope my descriptions of the items will serve in lieu of photographs, as the digital ones I attempted to take seem to have all been deleted or corrupted somehow. When I get the time, I'll attempt to find an analogue camera and see if it produces more stable results.

Until then, I am (as ever) yours,
Author's Notes
Both the title and Artemisia's name (genus of Wormwood) are a nod to Wormwood from The Screwtape Letters, which was my first thought when epistolary stories came up. I named the other characters via the connection to absinthe. Nella is from pimpinella, the genus of anise, though I wouldn't give her anything that awful as an actual name. Flora is short for Florence, which is a common fennel cultivar.
She is the human half of a changeling swap, and was raised in the fae realm. While I don't know an exact age, she's certainly older than she looks. Settling down in a quaint little human village to be boring and responsible was probably a rebellious act for her.

The Screwup Letters is a story written by Togi Kayako. It ran in Issue 89 at https://www.shousetsubangbang.com/mirror/the-screwup-letters/.

Summary
So I've been seeing this guy, Andy. We had a bit of a falling out and then I turned him into a cat this morning.

I didn't mean to turn him into a cat.

Author's Notes
A huge thanks to the Winter Cynic for the gorgeous artwork!

This one was a beast out of all proportion to the idea I started with ("What about a himbo catboy?") and my goal to just write some mindless smut to wrap up a garbage year. Wound up ripping 3k out on a final pass thanks to a gentle kill your darlings prod from the editor.

The title, while not inappropriate to the story, was picked entirely because it makes a terrible pun.
Author's Notes
My idea for this was, verbatim, "Fake CYOA, double second person". I'd intended it to be darker and along more of a generic "evil entity summoned by the book eats you" vein. It went in a different direction when I got into the first draft and skewed even further when my partner read that and responded, "Cursed book says self care!" I expanded the story and rewrote two of the scenes with that rattling around in my head. It's probably the oddest thing I've written, but I couldn't be happier with how it came out.

Massive thanks to ladysisyphus, for her patience with helping me format this correctly in the hell that is Wordpress.
