== Author's Notes ==

I'm not willing to talk about the sheer volume of personal shit that went into writing this, mostly because doing so would give up a lot of things about a lot of people that I don't really feel comfortable sharing, whether on my behalf or theirs.

However, I do want to talk about the art, because I'm frankly thrilled with the response I received. You can [http://ladysisyphus.livejournal.com/686968.html read the original challenge parameters]: I provided a reference drawing and some additional information, then said draw this. And they did, most of them without knowing anything more about the story than the bare bones I'd given them there. And some of the pictures were exactly what I'd been expecting, and some of them caught me completely by surprise, and each and every one of them is more fantastic than I ever could have hoped. I am unspeakably grateful to all my artists, even the ones who didn't end up contributing to the project for whatever reason -- this is my love letter to y'all.

The outstanding achievement award has to go to [[safelybeds]], though, because her contributions are outstanding, creative, and plentiful! She even did a pair of (self-)portraits of Navid, which I didn't use (for reasons that should be somewhat obvious), but which I thought were far too spectacular not to show here.

his is a sad story, but not at all without hope. I'm no good at reviews but I can tell you that I was very moved by the story and by the great artwork accompanying it. I recommend that you read this story and everything else by this author as it's all brilliant. I don't know how but Shukyou always seems to take her characters and worlds to the next level.

The art in this story is AMAZING, and the way it works with the story, the way it builds the narrative tension in the story makes me wriggle with happiness. That said, this story is sad! It is very sad! But my god is it good. There is a use of Islamic doctrine at a crucial scene that is also noteworthy and impressive for showing its scholarly side. Basically, this is a damn good story."
