== Summary ==
One psychic dives into another's subconscious to pull his partner back out.

It was a testament to his great panic and agitation that, upon having his Agency-managed alert system flare red and broadcast the words BABÁ DOWN directly into his brain, Alastair managed to wash his hands only three times before racing out the door of his apartment.

From [https://www.pinboard.in/u:sophia_sol/b:43170cad3786 pinboard.in]: "psychic spies in love. One half of a partnership having to journey through the mind of the other to save the other's life."

From [https://www.pinboard.in/u:savageneon/b:0c2cfb0523d0 pinboard.in]: "fantastic world building with mental powers and diving into brains for information (extraction). Alastair's partner Sebastiao (Baba) is attacked by renegade psychics and managed to save the others, in the process becoming trapped in his mind. Alastair goes to save him."

== Author's Notes ==

Not really much to say about this one, but I do have a few points I want to bring up.

First and foremost, [[beeblebabe]] was intensely instrumental in making this story happen, and especially in making Babá the precious little angel he turned out to be. This has been yet another adventure in What Happens When Whitneys Are Left Alone Together Too Long.

Second, the long, pretentious title is long and pretentious precisely because it's sort of an Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind homage. However, because Alastair is (mostly) German, instead of using Pope, I decided to go with Rainer Maria Rilke. I wound up using the last line of this verse from [http://www.gutenberg.org/files/24288/24288-h/24288-h.htm Das Stunden-Buch], but the whole thing is amazing enough that I wanted to keep it all there:

Lösch mir die Augen aus: ich kann dich sehn,
wirf mir die Ohren zu: ich kann dich hören,
und ohne Füße kann ich zu dir gehn,
und ohne Mund noch kann ich dich beschwören.
Brich mir die Arme ab, ich fasse dich
mit meinem Herzen wie mit einer Hand,
halt mir das Herz zu, und mein Hirn wird schlagen,
und wirfst du in mein Hirn den Brand,
so werd ich dich auf meinem Blute tragen.

Extinguish my sight, and I can still see you;
plug up my ears, and I can still hear;
even without feet I can walk toward you,
and without mouth I can still implore.
Break off my arms, and I will hold you
with my heart as if it were a hand;
strangle my heart, and my brain will still throb;
and should you set fire to my brain,
I still can carry you with my blood.
[http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Rainer_Maria_Rilke translation from Annemarie S. Kidder on wikiquote], because I'm too lazy to do it myself

And finally, if you can recognize what inspired this ... well, good on you! It's one of those things where if you're familiar with the source material, it's pretty obvious where this train of thought started -- but it's a moderately obscure source, so I don't expect everyone to point and laugh.
