== Appendix: Nate's Mixtape ==
(a full playlist can be found [https://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=6C0D29E4DA161AAB here])

 '''SIDE A'''

More general songs of social disaffection and high school being awful.

1. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac0oaXhz1u8&ob=av3n R.E.M. - Radio Free Europe]
Nate realizes that most of the time he doesn't know what the hell R.E.M. is talking about, but mostly he just takes this as awe-inspiring evidence of how incredibly deep they are.

2. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o65Q5zpnhk0 The Ramones - Rock 'N' Roll High School]
A part of Nate sort of thinks he should think this song is stupid, but he doesn't.

3. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VcauCclfytI The Sex Pistols - Pretty Vacant]
Nate is at all times acutely aware of how poserish his liking the Sex Pistols is. Also, he has to hide their albums in his room really carefully to keep his mom from seeing their name.

4. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05k90ts2biw Violent Femmes - Kiss Off]
This is probably Nate's favorite song in the world.

5. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xw9hgquVpc The Jam - Absolute Beginners]
Okay, stepping out of the narrative for a moment, this is the ONLY DIRECT LIFT FROM THE GROSSE POINTE BLANK SOUNDTRACK THAT I ALLOWED MYSELF

6. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykTLcDc6I8I The Feelies - The Boy With The Perpetual Nervousness]
Nate will thank you to keep your comments about this to yourself.

7. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7CF9NOgv1us Pixies - Break My Body]
The Pixies actually make Nate sort of uncomfortable.

8. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xvDuATZCY8I Sonic Youth - Teen Age Riot]
This is the one that gets like the last twenty seconds or so cut off at the end of the first side because Nate pushed his math too hard, and at first he was like AW DAMMIT, and then he was like... eh, whatever.

'''SIDE B'''

Where things start getting progressively more awkwardly romantic.

1. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQ2FS53ySgU Dinosaur Jr. - Freak Scene] (about as non-crap as the live recordings get; nothing doing with the album version)
...This song actually sort of makes Nate think more about Jase, but that's okay, too.

2. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjEsw9lxtRw Hüsker Dü - Could You Be The One?]
Nate loves Hüsker Dü, but still can't quite figure out how to say their name. He fakes it by sort of mumbling.

3. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJcCzWcgPsY The Replacements - I Will Dare]
This was a song Nate actually played for Eric relatively early on, but he couldn't tell if Eric quite, you know, got what he was trying to say or not.

4. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v36qCXzCud0 Echo & The Bunnymen - Bring On The Dancing Horses] (sound's kind of junk, but the video is more than worth it)
Nate thinks he knows what this song is about, but he's not sure.

5. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EgB__YratE&ob=av2e The Jesus and Mary Chain - Just Like Honey]
If Nate weren't too nervous to put on music while he and Eric are making out, this is the song he would put on.

6. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnWPGSQjFUc Joy Division - Transmission]
Joy Division was really kind of before Nate's time, but the stuttery 2 a.m. college radio station DJ sure does love to play them.

7. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DRtW1MAZ32M The Smiths - There Is A Light That Never Goes Out]
Nate has to confess, although never to Jase and definitely never to Amy, that he's not really sure what the big deal is about The Smiths. But this song makes him think about Eric more than just about any other.

8. [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1UGcz0nRyM The Cure - A Night Like This] (severe dearth of the canned version online, I fear)
This is the only song by The Cure that Nate actually likes.
