Shuzhen could let herself unwind. The church was empty, the floor was cool but not uncomfortable, and the weak winter sunshine cast pretty shadows on the ceiling and walls of the sanctuary. She was dreamily twirling the ceiling shapes around in her mind with some sparkling toccata lines when the amused voice of her girlfriend broke into her reverie.

Summary

Shuzhen could let herself unwind. The church was empty, the floor was cool but not uncomfortable, and the weak winter sunshine cast pretty shadows on the ceiling and walls of the sanctuary. She was dreamily twirling the ceiling shapes around in her mind with some sparkling toccata lines when the amused voice of her girlfriend broke into her reverie.

“One of these days,” Janel said, “you’re gonna give someone the scare of their life when they come up here and see you flat on the floor, like a body in a murder mystery.”
