Signups for this issue were posted at http://bb-shousetsu.livejournal.com/47532.html, and came with an editorial note:
Wikipedia offers some thoughts if one wants to go the full genre cliche route, but originality is also encouraged of course. The refined rules we hashed out in the earlier post:
1) Historial RPS is fine, but not using someone else's characters. If you write a novel about Napoleon or Louis XIV, it's historical fiction; but if you write a novel about the three Musketeers, it's fanfiction of Alexander Dumas. It may also be iffy if you hew too closely to another work's interpretation of historical personages.
2) The cutoff is 50 years before present day (=1960). Before that, any era / culture / geographic locale is fine, as long as it's Real Earth. No AUs (i.e. no steampunk).
3) It would be nice, but not required, to feature at least one real historical character per story. Not necessarily centrally; just as a cameo of sorts. XD
This issue was the first to contain standalone art as an option for artist contributions.[1]
