Summary

"It'll be a one-time thing. Just one big birthday present."

Jamie dredged up a smile. "Well then," he said. "Let's make it last."

Creator's Note

I started plotting this (or something like it) even before I'd finished writing the previous story, so when the themes for this year were announced, and I saw not only that there was a sequel-specific issue, but also the name of the theme, I knew I had to write this for it, no matter how much of a pain it was. And oh boy, was it ever a pain. I think this is probably the most technically difficult piece of writing I've ever accomplished. It's also the longest original work I've completed so far, so I'm all kinds of proud of it.

A big thank-you to starry for the early input, and an even bigger thank-you to Togi Kayako for betaing and cheerleading throughout the bulk of the writing process. Big thanks as well to the lovely and supportive folks of the Discord server, especially everyone who joined me for a writing sprint or several, and of course, thank you to W2 for being so patient.
