Rec: Morbid and Creepifying

This rec list was originally posted by ladysisyphus at http://bangbangwhimper.livejournal.com/24527.html, and has since been updated every year in October for Halloween.

The most recent issue (Issue 33) has been spookier than most, it's true, but that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to SSBB scary. Thus, I've cobbled together a list of spooky stories -- a handful from this last issue, most from past ones -- that I found particularly memorable. I tried to make it so that this isn't just stories with traditionally scary elements, but stories that are good reads if you really want to spook yourself. ...Some more so than others.

In deference to those who like to be prepared, this list shall be accompanied by my traditional utterly useless six-word summaries.

• The Wilderness: Can’t sleep. Trees will eat me.
• Anthracosis: Ghosts are no match for lesbians.
• The Peddler On The Mountain: Creepy pornographic fairy tales for all!
• Ingmar Bergman Is Dead: Uwe Boll, however, is still alive.
• Plumbing the Depths of Mystery and Engulfed In The Tentacles Of Horror: Enjoy these ‘Horrors By Gaslight’ together.
• The Pond by the Well: And then she went ‘splashy splashy’.
• Beyond The Pale: Who doesn’t like a magical circus?
• All the Way: The men are about this tall.
• The Fortune-Telling Doll: Exactly what the packing label says.
• [ INSERT TITLE HERE ]: [ summary goes right next to it ]
• Canaan Falls: There’s gay, and there’s Stephen King.
• The Horror from the Deep: Drunk Cthulhu waits knitting? Could be.
• The Pen: The Devil came down to Devonshire.
• Murder Ballad: I’ve been workin’ on the raaaaailroad….
• The Wolf at the Door: Learn some Puritan euphemisms for ‘penis’.
• The Doll: Yeah, dolls aren’t creepy at all.
• Kiss Kiss Brains Brains: Kisses are free, brains cost extra.
• Highjacked by the Truth: I think I’d watch this show.
• Sweet to Tongue and Sound to Eye: Those fairy folk are real jerks.
• Tourniquet: Didn’t need all those limbs anyway.
• The Unicorn Man: Who doesn’t want a pet unicorn?
• Love Will Tear Us Apart (or, The Modern Pygmalion): AAAAAAA AAAAAA AAAAAAAAA AAAA AAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAA
• Undertow: A comic about love and drowning.
• The Eleusinian Mysteries: Don’t eat the pomegranate seeds, kid.
• Complicated Creation: Not dead yet! I feel fine!
• Robin, after the apocalypse: Zombies in the kitchen with Di~nah….
• The Eye of Nechemyyeh: Little twin sacrifice never hurt anyone.
• Everything living tries to get back to the soil: End of the world and stuff.

And a little two-part palate-cleanser:

• Mike Dies at the End: He actually doesn’t. Or does he?
• This Story Is Full of Scorpions: Seriously, Dude, Don’t Read It: It actually isn’t. Or is it?
