Where You Have Yet To Go is a story written by Ogiwara Saki and illustrated by pseudonymeter. It ran in Issue 28 at http://s2b2.livejournal.com/161792.html, and is mirrored at http://www.shousetsubangbang.com/mirror/where-you-have-yet-to-go/.

Summary

From the author: "In which there are war reporters, an unexpected roommate, and all the wrong words."

From http://secretsolitaire.livejournal.com/159060.html: "It's the story of Asim, a writer who returns home to the U.S. after covering the Iraq war to find that he's lost both his apartment and his ability to write."

From isweedan.livejournal.com: "a story about Asim, a war reporter who returns from iraq with a writer's block only to find his apartment rented out to somebody else, and has to crash with luke, a photographer he more than often gets paired together on assignments."

He didn't return from the war a wreck. He didn't return riddled with dreams of dust, sand, and glass. He didn't return with a bullet wound in his leg or a voice in his head. He didn't return a hero or a ghost. However, he did return home to an empty apartment, an uncooperative landlord, and all of the right words missing.

External Reviews

I love s2b2, I think that the stories posted there are generally of good quality. I read this one yesterday, and I adored it to bits: it's fluently written and the characters feel very real, forged and scarred by the experiences they've lived. I found myself both laughing and with tears in my eyes and in the end I wanted to read it again, to catch things I'd missed. I suck at reviews, so I suggest you go and read it ^_^
